When is the museum open?

The museum is open annually from 01.04. to 01.11. on public holidays and weekends as well as on request, Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm, Sunday and public holidays from 11 am to 5 pm. The monastery ruins are accessible daily all year round by paying the entrance fee at the turnstile (please have a suitable amount ready, change is not possible).

Are the ruins open in winter?

The ruins are accessible daily all year round by paying the entrance fee at the turnstile. Please insert the appropriate money. There is no possibility to change money. The museum is closed from 02.11. to 31.03.

Can I pay by card or cashless?

Unfortunately, card payment is not possible. Please pay in cash. We will be happy to issue you with a receipt. For groups, invoicing is possible by prior arrangement.

Do groups or school classes have to register?

When is the best time to reach someone?

The Foundation's office is open Monday - Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm.

How long does a tour of the ruins and the museum take on average?

Allow about two hours for a tour of the ruins and the museum.

How high do you have to walk to the monastery ruins?

From the museum up to the ruins, you have to climb about 30 meters in altitude on an unpaved stretch of 500 meters. The last short section is steep.

Can I visit the ruins in everyday shoes?

Sturdy shoes are generally recommended, as the paths are not paved and the access path is steep in places.

Is the monastery ruin barrier-free?

Unfortunately, the monastery ruins are not barrier-free. The museum is located about 50 m from the parking lot and is barrier-free.

Is the monastery ruin accessible with a baby carriage?

The access path and the paths in the monastery ruins are not paved and are steep in places. The monastery ruins are therefore difficult to reach with a normal baby carriage, but certainly accessible with a sports baby carriage or outdoor baby carriage. Outside the museum's opening hours (on weekdays and in winter), however, the ruins are only accessible through a turnstile that does not allow baby carriages to pass.

Are the monastery ruins suitable for children/families?

Yes, absolutely. Children will have fun exploring the ruins themselves. The surrounding, unspoilt nature with its mighty old trees invites them to play and discover. However, climbing around on the old walls, some of which are crumbling, is prohibited.

Are dogs allowed on the premises?

Dogs on a leash are generally allowed. However, outside the museum's opening hours (on weekdays and in winter), dogs must also go through the turnstile. Larger dogs sometimes have problems with this.

Can I buy something to drink and eat in the museum store?

The museum café is open at weekends from 11 am to 5 pm. Small snacks, hot and cold drinks and cakes are available here. However, there is no proper catering available.

Where are the toilets located/is there a disabled toilet and a changing table for children?

The toilets are located in front of the museum courtyard on the left-hand side coming from the parking lot. A disabled toilet is available, but unfortunately there is no changing table.

Are there also toilets at the top of the ruins?

No, there is no toilet there.

Are there garbage cans on the mountain?

No, there is no garbage can on the mountain. Please take your garbage with you. There is a litter garbage can in the museum courtyard.

Can the ruins be entered after dark?

No, it is forbidden to enter the ruins after dark.

Can I spend the night on the mountain (camping)?

No, camping on the mountain is prohibited.st verboten.

Can I cycle up the mountain?

No, cycling on the mountain is only permitted up to the museum courtyard.

Can I get married on the Disibodenberg?

The foundation is happy to make the grounds of the church ruins available for weddings. However, the following must be observed:

  • A church wedding is only possible after consultation with the relevant local parishes.
  • The foundation asks for a donation of at least €250 for the use of the church ruins.
  • As there is no suitable access road, it is not possible to transport equipment etc. to the ruins.
  • The celebrations should take place quietly and as far as possible in a Christian setting.

Can a coach drive up to the parking lot at the museum and park there?

Yes, although the road to the monastery ruins is narrow, it is still passable for coaches. Coaches can park in our parking lot.
